An Alternative to VW for your campervan?

We are continuously getting significant number of viewings of posts relating to comparisons between VW and NV200 for use as a base vehicle for a campervan. Many viewers are referrals from VW related websites and blogs, so the assumption is that some of the viewers may be considering the Nissan NV200 ,van or combi, as an alternative to the longstanding favourite, VW. We have received very few comments from anyone actually making that move or seriously considering switching to a different Brand. We did get a rather nasty comment which was edited out and never reached the published Blog. It was from someone who had evidently had very bad experiences with Nissan in some way and consisted of several pages of repetitive “criticisms” of the Japanese manufacturer (not the NV200 itself) in strong unsuitable language.
We would love to hear more from anyone who has made the move to NV200 campervan, self-built or otherwise, but has had previous experience of owning and running a VW. Please comment below. I promise not to selectively edit out any criticism as I have no axe to grind. I love VW campers and have memories of them dating back half a century to the early 1960’s. Also has any previous contributor made progress with their own conversions?

My NV200 self-build camper is coming along slowly, I’ve slept in it plenty of times. It needs more time spending on the conversion, but unfortunately I haven’t got any workshop space at the moment. The interior needs soundproofing & wiring first, then cupboards fitting, then veltrim covering exposed metalwork. It’s all planned in my head. I’ll send a photo to Dinkum.

Brilliant blog, I’ve been here for about two hours now!! I currently run an old Alfa 147 and have an ’84 VW T25 Komet Kamper in pretty good nick, but tend to walk and cycle for work meaning two vehicles is a tad excessive for a man whole only covers something like 6k miles a year! I’ve seen the Nissan NV200 around and often thought it was a good looking van, perfectly sized for a two person camper. So… I’m beginning to think about trading in my car and treasured (but not great as a city runner) T25 for a NV200 Combi which I’d plan to self-convert. I’m mainly concerned about the interior space of the NV200 vs T25, but would also use an awning and think the swivel bases will be just the job to claw back a bit of space from the cabin. Can I ask how much you paid for the bases from Zoooom, I tried their site but couldn’t see a cost. Happy travels, Joe
